The term 'chrysopoeia' comes from the Greek word ‘χρυσοποιία’ which was used in the Alchemical tradition and means ‘gold-making’. In Alchemy the goal was transmuting base or ignoble metals, such as lead into gold. That has a literal meaning for the common mind, but the higher meaning of the Alchemical process is transmuting one’s own negative qualities, weaknesses, and vice, into virtue, love, wisdom, and truth, thus creating gold within your soul.
